Eric Zimmerman

Recently Eric Zimmerman LA based artist began a series of new works entitled Surface Visions.  This work is an extension to his passion about for creating cutting edge neon light sculpture.

Even before attending California Institute of The Arts,  Zimmerman was intrigued by the mesmerizing magical glow resulting from harmless gases sealed inside shaped tubular hand blown glass.  This eventually became the key element of his large scale neon sculptures.  Colored glass and phosphorus coating contribute to a pallet of exotic illuminated colors. The phenomenon is created when an electrical current passes through the interiors of the glass tube.

Eric's neon sculptures are meticulously assembled with refined material such reflective flat glass, stainless steel, aluminum among others. Eric’s 8000 square studio with ceilings as high as 30’ allowed for manainging the assembly large structure.

Eric began to express his artistic aspirations exploring mediums with endless possibilities.  His neon sculpture has influence the manner in which he began to conceptualizes Surface Visions. Creating digital imagery printed on an array of flat materials. Eric has transformed his art from three dimensional sculpture into two dimensional surfaces.

Currently Eric’s medium consists of traditional surfaces made from the highest museum quality archive ink and papers. In the not so distant future he plans to expand upon his surfaces to include starfire glass, textured metals, high quality polymeric sheets to name a small few.
